is that normal?
4 Answers
i'm 15 years old and have a pretty healthy diet, i eat lots of veggies and fruits and don't eat junk food, but i decided to start excercising since i didn't do that much before. My diet hasn't changed, but i've just been excercising more and being more active and doing some more strengthening workouts, yet in the first two weeks that i've started started, i gained about two and a half kilos. Originally i was about 45 kilos (98 pounds) and about 5 foot 4 inches, but now that i'm more active i've actually gained weight. Is that normal? And why does that happen anyways?

At 98 pounds I would guess that there is not much body fat to lose as a result of your more active lifestyle - this can often mask the weight gain and what is gained in muscle is lost in fat. This is one reason why mass alone is not a good indicator of progress for people taking up exercise (muscle is much more dense than fat and you can actually gain weight whilst losing inches). Watch your diet to allow for the increase in protein consumption and consult your doc if you are concerned.
