MM and KM Links August 2008 [Week 4]
79 Answers
Good evening Linkers. I'm slightly earlier than usual since Mrs gen2 is taking me out for a meal tonight. You probably also spotted that this is not your familiar Crofter opening the shrubbery gates since he is away for the weekend and has asked me to stand in once again and look after you lot.
The fame (or notoriety) of 'The Shrubbery' is spreading far and wide.
Did you see that earlier this week someone posted this question (from the 'So and So' quiz).
39 ) Eldest of herd may be found singing in the shrubbery (3, 4, 4)
Try as I might, I just couldn't manage to fit our matriarch, Pauline, to those letters.
Not much luck with fitting Strix either.

No best answer has yet been selected by gen2. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The Links Games are now on week 4 of 5 so anything can happen. In the MM version of the game, wickedtongue is 4 points out in front on 12 points, but remember, those points were earned as two sixes in just two weeks. With two games still to go it is possible for absolutely anyone to emulate that feat and be up there with wickedtongue in no time at all. Remember that most of the bonus points are often claimed within the first few minutes of the game, so to be sure of the best chance, be there on the dot of 9.
To take part, just log in to Q&P tomorrow morning.
For the MM game, look out for a thread started promptly at 8:45 am by this months setter Sir Sarumite. That will be the preamble and then dead on 9 O'Clock the four key words will be posted and the game commences.
The KM version of the game will be started on a thread somewhat earlier posted by seekeerz. The actual start of the game will depend on someone posting the results of solving four highlighted clues in the Daily Telegraph GK Crossword - usually around 7:30 am
In both games you have to guess what words have been chosen by the setter to link with the four declared words so as to make a well known word or phrase. For the MM game the words you seek are all from 4 to 8 letters long. For the KM game the length depends upon what Kate Mepham has managed to fit into the Herculis crossword on Monday (it is a 15 x 15 grid).
So, 'Have fun' and 'Be good'.

I see it was noted that I was absent from the festivities of the Shrubbery a week ago. Whilst you were all being remarkably sober and sensible in my absence I was bobbing around on the old briny up in the Inner Hebrides so full of Caledonian spirit and having returned from Dalriada I give you these two to start the evening off:

"I've waited patiently for you", golly what are you all doing, queueing up at the local chippy? It's been over 45 minutes since the last post (me).

How right you are Jan, both my mother and my father-in-law were Scottish and by way of contrast to Andy Stewart try the Blue Nile - a very different kind of Scottish music, I could of course have stuck in some Runrig!

Good one Mazie . I seem to be brain dead tonight, can't think of anything.
Pauline me too, perhaps it's the weather.
I am going on an adventure tomorrow........I am going on a trip on the Vicars narrow boat!!!!
Earlier in the year the church had a charity auction and I bid for and won a trip for 4 on his narrow boat and a light lunch.
That probably sounds very dull but not if you knew mty vicar!! He is always rude to me, like you lot when I came to Stockport, and he is a real laugh. His wife is great too. He wears trendy clothes and designer shades and is just brill.
Nicky should have been coming but can't so it's just me Linz and Evie and we are really looking forward to it.
