When my kids were little my mother-in-law used to hide lanterns round the garden for the children to find. She'd give them a Hallowe'en torch each (from the cheap shops) and send them off to find a lantern each. We'd keep the kids amused inside whilst she ran round the garden 'hiding' them (they don't really need to be hidden for small children), but would leave them lit so they could easily see them.
Look out in the shops for games like 'pin the hat on the witch', which should amuse the children for a while.
You could also have a conker competition (you could supply the conkers), with a small prize for the winner.

it's good fun straight after the applebobbing to pick out smarties from a plate of flour with their teeth (their faces get covered in flour which makes some great photos!)
how about having to pick out sweets (wrapped!) from a jar of 'worms' (cold cooked spagetti with a little oil)
or getting the little ones to feed their adult (who is blindfolded) jelly using a knife and fork
you can pick up halloween cd's with scary music for all the usual party games pass the parcel, musical bumps etc
hope you have fun!

We have two Halloween parties each year - one for the children, and another one for adults.
I love getting everything ready for the little ones. We put fake cobwebs up, black balloons and carved out pumpkins with torches inside them instead of candles.
Games vary from as others've suggested, to treasure hunts and hide and seek. At the end of the evening, we release a net full of shiny shapes - moons, stars (can be bought at most good stationers), which've been suspended from the ceiling until our Halloween cake's cut.
The kids never want to go home - it's brilliant!

hi lozzylou,
I did a party last year( ages 2 - 9 ) and i was brill,here is some of the things i did :
* Ice Monster Hands
Rubber Glove washed and fillied with plain and coloured water, put in the frezzer for a day or two shaping it as i went, brill for the punch bowl.
* Halloween Sarnys
Just simply make sandwichs as normal and use spooky cut out shapes
*Mummy game ( one of my frav)
split the children into groups of two or three add one adult to each group and lots of toilet roll.
The idea of the game is to rap the adult up as fast a posible from head to toe like a mummy.
* a piyata ( sorry don't know how to spell) the thing u hit and sweets fall out
* fill a bucket wil coloud spegetti and hide little parcles in
I hope these are of some use to u good look
