I'm curious outwitting. Did you see it stated that he was the first. I kept getting him too but actually there is a book called the first mountain man and the guy is John Colter. He was doing it long before Jedidiah Smith. Check it out and see what you think. I was a little unsure on this one because it actually could be either one. Let me know what you think?
