I saw a lovely painting (a charabanc trundling along a leafy, country lane) and decided to buy it - until I saw it was 190 quid.

I went off it quick!

Would you pay that much for a painting?

yes and more easily! im really into the banksy and similliar type of art as i used to graffitti when i was younger so i appreciate and love this type of art.
Oooh no,I don't think I would pay that much for a charabanc painting.
But I wouldn't mind paying a fiver for the frame.
Yes. I've paid more than that for a print.
A Picasso would be a bargain at that price! agree with you there gymrat, bought my lad a Banksy book for xmas, its brilliant!
if it is an original...think of the hours that one person spent painting it......even at min wage....and 20 hours work....is cheap.
mrs chappie, never let price be a factor,if you like something then have it! ,you only have one life and lifes for living! the bills, food and rent can always wait till next month! sod the recession i say!

Could you do the same? How long would it take you? How much would the tools cost you?

Artists I know spend weeks on their art and no two paintings are alike.

Invest in art as it is a living for the artist and will last as long as its looked after. Should you get bored with it, you could re-sell it or give it to someone as a special present.
i have sold some of my own paintings for more than that.
Yes I would, and more too, if I could afford it! 190.00 is not actually too bad for an original painting that you really like. It sounds just the sort of paining I would like too Mrs Chappie - I'm not into modern works of art!!
if you're going to love it every time you walk past it, it's a good investment.
Very true Sara. Go back and buy it Mrs Chappie. It will make you happy every day, so it's not that expensive considering.
Rather depends on how much 190 is to you too!

In 1952 Glasgow Council bought a Salvador Dali for 8000 and got a lot of stick for wasting rate payers money on it.

But they bought the copyright too - they get money for every reproduction of it and it's more than paid for itself

Not really the same thing I know but I love the story

Here's another 2p for Glasgow

yes - to be honest mrs,c, 190 is not that much for a painting. Well, it depends what medium it is - but if I liked it that much, I wouldn't consider that too expensive.

The most I've spent on a painting was 460 - a fortune to some, not a lot at all to others - but worth every penny from my personal point of view for the pleasure it's given me by having it on my wall.
It's a black gold & white mosaic-type nude of a woman. I tell people it's me!
i would and i have, 3 time ive got 3 limited edition prints by an artist called steven townsend, one of which is worth over 700

nice paintings Dave , looks like a scene from my back garden barring the Polar bears.
Hi mrs_o - late in as usual. Nearly got lost in a snow drift!

If I saw a painting I liked & had the money, I would buy it. I'd then get my husband to hang it on the wall, then stand back & admire it. -xx-
