It's nothing to do with cricket - use Chambers or Collins (others will probably do) to look up 'Peter'...

thought the clue was that it was an anagram

both correct (as I see it) it is anagram of abbreviation for one word in the clue + another word given in the clue and the angram made has a meaning that has a common meaning with the word Peter.
