MM Links Solutions July 2009 [Week 3]
11 Answers
The third week in the reign of Queen Julia went as smoothly as expected from an accomplished former MM Links Champion. I rather like her chosen Link Words under the theme of The Space Race as:
HARVEST Moon
SLEEP Walk
Space STATION
PIRATE Ship
These Links have a bit of a sharp edge to them, but several were referred to in the preamble with Crops and Radio Caroline!

Among the first ten entries was the Norn Iron champion beejay1124 with SPACE STATION and each of these six earned their TWO POINTS.
The game quickly hit a bad spell with the next twenty yielding only One Point for Elspeth before the watchful kettledrum made a big noise with the new PIRATE SHIP together with HARVEST MOON to pick up an impressive THREE POINTS. Once this stage was reached with three link words exposed, the game barely ticked over until Entrant #39 appeared on the scene.
It was the ever-awake twix123 with the evasive SLEEP WALK (together with the popular HARVEST MOON) to pick up another THREE POINTS. Since this is the very last link word to be found, I feel obliged to bestow on twix123 the illustrious title of HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!
*** Let trumpets sound and cannon roar ***
*** Let the people cheer and shout Encore ***

Our relative newcomers Gill & Jean Gasbaggerites failed to pick up on our setters sudden change of style ~ Better luck next week! Finally, congratulations are due to tearinghair for retiring recently. We all wish you many happy years doing exactly what you bl**dy well want!
The League Table after this penultimate week is as follows:
SIX POINTS: beejay1124, Grenmus & twix123
FIVE POINTS: kettledrum & tearinghair
FOUR POINTS: centrino & SHAZZA
THREE POINTS: cliffyg & Elspeth
Twelve others have Two Points and nine have One Point!
The contest is starting to heat up as we approach the last week in the most successful reign of Jools in the Crown. There is less bunching as the front runners jockey for position as the home straight comes into view!
Until we meet again, this is crofter signing off and wishing you
 HAPPY LINKING!

Thank you to Queen Julia for giving clues that even I can interpret - for a change!
Crofter may have realised that this is the first time since the game began that I have deliberately chosen a link that someone else has already picked (although I've occasionally failed to notice that someone else has got there first), but your 'harvest' hint was so clear that I couldn't ignore it .... and I thought a detected a certain amount of nostalgia for the pirate radio ships of the '60s.
And to go back to week 1 ... your mention of insurance companies surely led to a 'cover note', but fortunately no-one else noticed, so I didn't have to break the habits of a lifetime then.
Oh dear! I'm not used to being up with the front runners after week 3. Will I be able to read you again next week?
Thanks Crofter for keeping the score, and for putting up with the very idiosyncratic way that I play the game.

Thanks Crofter and Queen Julia, I've actually hit a setters wavelength at last, although I should have guessed at 'pirate ship' being an avid listener to Radio Caroline in the sixties (I even drove up to Frinton in 1965 to see the mi amigo offshore)! I may not 'sleep walk', but I don't sleep very much, which is why my entries are always late at night or early in the morning.
See you all next week, late as usual!!
