MM and KM Links August 2009 [Week 1]
60 Answers
Good Evening AB Linkers, everywhere!
Welcome to this first week in the reign of Pope Adrian (aka twix123), who will appear in person tomorrow! I was sorely tempted to link up his new title with something to do with (H)adrian's Wall ~ particularly in the month named after Augustus Caesar!
Making contact with our new setter proved trouble-free and I think that I am in for yet another easy month. Pope Adrian seems to be a worthy successor who has hidden depths. I hope he'll divulge some of these in due course ~ including the origins of his nom de plume twix123.

We also have five weeks to get know our new setter better! His introductory launch should open at 8.45am and his four words to be linked should be declared at 9.00am tomorrow, when MM Links kicks off in earnest. Remember that early hits gain bonus points, but twix123 gained his winning point score using four late entries! His closest challenger was Shazza ~ another late entrant!
Of course, it is also a brand new start for the international version of this same game which is called KM Links and kicks off at an earlier hour, but in this version time is NOT a relevant factor. This game has as the regular organiser from Oz, my very good friend seekeerz. As I always say ~ Why not chance your arm at both Link Games? They remain open for most of the weekend and all entries are scored and entered on to master scoreboards.
Until we meet up tomorrow, may I wish you Happy Linking!

I quote, re our new MM setter 'Pope Adrian', from the Wikipedia entry for the book/play Hadrian VII:
"Generally he gets his way by charm or doggedness, and of course by being much cleverer than all those round him; but his short reign is brought to an end when he is assassinated by a Pope-hating Ulsterman, and the world breathes a sigh of relief."
Let us hope twix123 despite his charm lasts longer!!

I hope he washes his dirty habits !!!!
Well I don't think I scored 1 point last month so perhaps this is true

The Pope and the Queen of England are on the same stage at an Anglican and Catholic commemoration of the Anglo-Irish accords - the crowd is huge - thousands. Her Majesty and His Holiness can't help but have a little rivalry - both being heads of churches and all.
The Queen says to the Pope, "Did you know that with just one little wave of my hand I can make every English person in the crowd go wild?" He doubts it, so she shows him. Sure enough, the royal-gloved wave elicits rapture and cheering from every Englishman in the crowd.
Gradually, the cheering subsides. The Pope, not wanting to be outdone by someone wearing a worse frock and hat than he, considers what he could do. So the Pope says to the Queen,"Your Majesty, that was impressive. But did you know that with one little wave of MY hand I can make every Irish person in the crowd go crazy with joy? Their joy will not be a momentary display like that of your subjects, but will go deep into their hearts, and they will speak forever of this day and rejoice - they will recount it to their grandchildren and they to their descendants.
The Queen seriously doubts this, and says so. "One little wave of your hand and all Irish people will rejoice forever? Show me." So the Pope slapped her.

Sister Catherine is asking all the Catholic school children in fourth grade what they want to be when they grow up.
Little Sheila says: "when I grow up, I want to be prostitute!"
Sister Catherine's eyes grow wide and she barks: "what in the name of God did you say?"
"A prostitute," Sheila repeats.
Sister Catherine breathes a sign of relief and says: "thank God! I thought for a moment you said a Protestant!"
