maintaining the mindset of someone with an eating disorder
2 Answers
According to all my research online i was 25 lbs overweight. I am 5'1 and at the time weighed 120 lbs, i began fasting and to keep myself focused on not eating i have turned to "thinspo" videos and pics..i read on a website that although it is dangerous to have an eating disorder, one should really consider haveing the determination like someone with an eating disorder to help them really reach their health in fitness goals in a healthy way and for that reason i have turned to the anorexic videos.Skin and bones to me does not present itself as appealing and i will not let myself get that far..I have been "not eating" for 4 days and already went down 6 pounds and i see the difference. But im a little nervous now because it seems like the number on the scale doesnt really matter to me anymore, what is now beginning to matter is if whether or not i have fat on my body when i look in the mirror and if i do, i will continue to not eat until its gone..Is it possible for this to turn into an obsession? i am afraid that maybe i will change into someone with a full blown eating disorder..any support groups online for this? i want to chat with other girls who can help me.

You must stop this way of dieting straight away, I used to suffer from anorexia, and it ruined my life. You might feel okay at the moment, and proud of the fact that you have lost 6 pounds. But stop it at that, and start dieting in a normal frame of mind.

May I also mention that you cannot really 'bring-on' or decide that you are going to have an eating disorder, it is a horrible way to live your life, it is a mental health problem, and 1 in 4 people with eating disorders die from the disease.
When I was ill, I became so tired from eating so little, that I could work, or even walk upstairs. Luckily I got help from a counsellor and GP before I was hospitalised.
You need 1200kcal alone just for your body to think and breathe (not including any movement). And as soon as you begin eating again, you will regain all the weight you lost within a year. Therefore, eat healthily, exercise and lose weight slowly. Otherwise this maybe the last decision you make. Being thin is not worth taking your life for.
Go and see your GP if you still feel the need to eat nothing.

At 5 foot 1 inch and 120 lbs you are right in the middle of the normal range for BMI. If you lost 25 lbs your BMI would be 17.91 which is UNDERWEIGHT. I suggest you start eating a healthy balanced diet and stop worrying about your weight. See your GP if you still feel you need to not eat as that is not healthy.
