Good morning and Welcome to the second week of my stint as Lady Jill. Let’s see if you can repeat last week’s “Pointsfest”.
As further background, I’ve lived in Warwick for almost 40 years, and spent most of my working life in Stratford-upon-Avon. “Lucky woman!” I hear you cry; but people who live and work in a tourist area often view it in a different way from its visitors. We may complain about the crowds, the souvenir shops and the high prices. We may count the number of cafés, restaurants and antique centres, and wonder why there is little for those who live here all year round. For example, several post offices were closed down in Warwick a few years ago, the only central one that remained was on the direct route from the castle car park into the town. However, perhaps we concentrate too much on the negative aspects and forget why they are there in the first place - and, of course, there is the much-needed revenue tourists bring to the area.

However there are many smaller gems in the county of Warwickshire, including specialist museums, megalithic and Roman remains, restored gardens, and an amazing flight of locks at Hatton on the Grand Union Canal. For the most part, I’d describe the area as ‘pretty’ rather than ‘spectacular’, but my early morning commute between Warwick and Stratford was a very pleasant way to start the day.
Tradition is very much a part of the area, with folk festivals, farmers’ markets, Victorian fairs, and all sorts of activities for children at weekends and in the school holidays to ensure that crafts and skills don’t die out. In fact, as I write this, I’m wondering why I would ever have cause to complain!

Once again, I shall follow the rules relating the word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one or more of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when my selected words will be declared, and points awarded in the usual manner. My second set of words to be linked should appear below at 9.00am.
