All rates are being re-assessed for April 2010. We have our new documents from the valuation office agency but we are not sure they are correct in the detail ie the square meterage in each component of the property and also how the £ per unit are arrived at. i need to get it explained and confirmed by an appropriate person but not sure who i need to approach? I know i will have to pay for such a service and i think it should be more not less than the valuation i have received so im just wanting to get it correct.

There is some material on the Valuation Office Agency website that explains the basis of the square meterage calculations. In general Net Internal Area is used and it explains what that means and what it includes and excludes (e.g. loos and cleaning cupboards are excluded) - I was looking at it only last week myself. As to the rate used per square metre, you will have to ask the VOA but the rate depends on the type of business you are.
