MM Links January 2010 [Week 3]

I am posting this on behalf of Roslyn because of a temporary fault in MY system!
Welcome to Week [3] in the reign of Regal Roslyn as the story of my life in Derbyshire continues. As I mentioned in my last instalment, when I became a mother, my life started to revolve around our two children. One of our many rewarding parental duties was taking them to the swimming baths, and they could both virtually swim before they could walk! Little did I realise at the time, just how big a part swimming was to become in our lives!
Both children obviously inherited the competitive genes from me and John (he was a County Footballer) because at the age of 6 they were both signed up to the local swimming club. Within a few years, they were training five nights a week and competing in League Galas for their club most Saturday evenings -- no mean feat for two children whose father couldn’t swim a single stroke! Even after many “lessons” from them on holidays in the UK and abroad, John still hasn’t mastered it!!

Open meets (competitions) also took up a lot of weekend time and quite often it entailed a very early start (and a late return home) for competitions as far afield as Hull or Wigan. However, it was all worth it though for the many trophies and medals they amassed on our travels, the enduring friendships we all formed and the degree of discipline that both children developed from a very early age.
Back home, we were soon involved in the running of the club starting out as Team Managers on Poolside, progressing to Announcer & Scorer for Home Galas, Fixtures Secretary, Chairman of the Swimming Committee & eventually Chairman of the whole club, which at one time boasted over 400 swimmers. The proudest moment was perhaps when Abi and three of her club mates became Derbyshire Freestyle and Medley Relay Champions at U15 level. All of this took time and (as team managers) it was almost a full-time job planning, preparing, organising and then transporting the squad to events.

The Swimming Club went from strength to strength, soon becoming one of the strongest and most notorious clubs in the County, renowned for its team spirit and raucous support. Many of the lasting friendships that were made at the club were probably even stronger so than those made at school. However, all good things come to an end and when Jonathan left the sport (through injury) and Abi moved on to obtaining her coaching qualifications, John and I reclaimed some of our lives back for ourselves, investing more time (and money) into gardening and DIY, but more of that next time!
It’s now time to get down to the business! As far as my MM Links are concerned, needless to say, I shall follow the rule on word length adopted by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter shall disclose my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past.
My third set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.
