processor speed
3 Answers
In May 2003 I bought a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ processor. When the computer turned on it used to come up with Athlon 2000+ but now it comes up with Athlon 1.24Ghz and it has significantly slowed down which I noticed in one program in particular. Does any one know the cause of this and how to rectify the problem?

To change it back when you turn on the comp press delete and it should take you to setup if not then find the buttong u have to press. Then go to performance or p+p settings or something similar. It should have a line whichc says CPU Speed. Mine says 100/100 Mhz but when i tap the '+' sign twice on the number pad it goes to 133/133 Mhz and then when i save the changes it goes back to the original speed im not sure wehy it does this but its usually happenes when theres an error or its locked up and i have to turn it off manually. Don't touch anything else or anythign that ur not sure about, other wise u mite change something wrong but if it sounds similar to my case then try it.
It normally resets to the lowest clock frequency to protect the RAM. If the problem is occuring quite often then I suspect that you have a memory problem. Google memtest and run it, it will tell you if you have a problem. Did the problem occur on it's own or have you removed the RAM stick at any point. I have found that a lot of clients have installed DDR RAM in a SDRAM slot and vice versa. This will also cause an Athlon 2000 to register as 1.24g rather than it's true 1.68g.
