I can see that Dunstable is a straw hat and unstable is liable to change but where the D is indicated in clue not sure.

in the Chambers Crossword Dictionary under straw hat it gives Dunstable. I can see unstable meaning subject to change but don't see where the D fits in??

The clue was phoned through to me from a friend who knows I'm a member here.

As far as I'm aware the clue is exactly as I've given it and the D is a mystery.
