MM Links June 2010 [Week 4]

Once again, this is “King John” (aka rockfordill) with my penultimate challenge for the month of June. In fact, I spent 25 years in the great American Midwest and that deserves more than a cursory mention. Rather surprisingly, I found that I had a certain affinity with the Midwest ~ I suppose this was partly to do with my father's specialty of painting and sculpting horses in general and western art in particular.

I was always surrounded by the art of Remington, Russell, Wyeth and others and found a natural feeling of empathy with the vast Midwest. The skies really are big out there. I always loved to camp and ride horses across a largely untamed wilderness. I have to say that riding out in Wyoming beats hacking in Surrey lanes by a country mile! One ranch that we stayed on was actually bigger than the whole of Surrey!

Work was good in Rockford and of course (as indicated earlier) sports were always available and affordable (eg $5 for a parachute jump!). Then there was boating on the old Mississippi – that was always a great adventure. We would trailer the boat over to the river on Friday afternoon and find a suitable sandbar on which to camp for the weekend and swim and water-ski until it was time for supper and bed! The kids loved it (as did I). Now, life here in Surrey is more genteel, but more about that next week.

As far as this week’s MM Links game is concerned, I have followed the usual rule on word length. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My penultimate set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.
well, it won't have anything to do with horses, then !!
Well I haven't had a clue all month!
Maybe swanning around on the river?
