Parking on public land
18 Answers
I live in Scotland and outside my house is a samll piece of public land for about six cars. This area is now being occupied by a taxi rank for taxis and mini buses when not on hire. I called the council and although on the licence for the buisness they are said to be keeping them elsewhere because the land is public and all the vehicals are incures taxed etc there is not much that can be done. even tho my neighbour and i hav no spaces to park. Even when one taxi moves someone is waiting in another one to nip into the space. what can I do legally?

As hc says, perhaps a friendly word with the taxi company might get you some results. They may be sympathetic, but don't bank on it.

unfortunately Smartie, they are parking the vehicles with the same rights as you wanting to park your vehicle there. I dont think that there is anything that you could do about it and I was not take any action that could result in a claim of criminal damage to yourself. Yes, it is annoying but, life generally is.
It's very antisocial of them to do this, and I would have a conscience about it, but unfortunately there are many around that don't give a damn.
If you ever have a chance though.
Can you not devise a scheme with the neighbours in that you keep watch and every time a car leaves you just drive into the empty space and leave it there for a couple of days. If you and your neighbours do the same, they might have to go elsewhere!!
Be sitting in your cars ready and waiting.
Good luck.
