Now that the dust has settled.   It seems that the Cons have seen the worst set of results in 40 YEARS. After millions of voters cast their ballots for their choice for Councils and Mayors. The biggest shock was that Conservative Lost 397 council seats . While Labour gained 232. Lib Dems gained 98. and The Greens gained 64. Labour now control 51 of the 107 Councils. Lib Dems 12 . Cons 6. Independant 1 and the remaing 37 under no overall control ...In all, a bad time for the Tories

Think the biggest shock with Mayoral vote results was Sadiq Khan winning London and Richard Parker winning West Mids                                 Totally unexpected .

The BBC have different figures for the numbers of seats won and lost although your figures are from The Independent

LAB           +186
LIB DEM   +104
TORIES      -474
INDS           +93
GREENS      +74
RA               +11

Khan winning in London wasn't a shock. It was expected.

Wasn't Richard Parker the tiger in Life of Pi.

The real reason the public have turned against the Cons is the BBT Factor. Boris Brexit and Truss.   Boris sold Brexit to the public for  his own advantage and promised joe bloggs the earth while skipping through the sunny uplands. Problem was and still is   Brexit didn't deliver Bus loads of money like Boris promised. But just the opposite and Boris is the only one skipping along the sunny uplands with his pockets full of money.Leaving joe bloggs to pick up the pieces and pay for the mistakes of Brexit Then along came TRUSS with her Barmy ideas and people still hate her every time a mortgage payment is due. Can you blame people for NOT Voting Tory

The question is why should they vote Labour. Why not Reform UK, or Green? Describe (in your own words) Labour's first 100 days.

"TRUSS with her Barmy ideas and people still hate her every time a mortgage payment is due." - your ignorance is a thing to behold. interest rates went up because of inflation and that went up because of the Ukraine conflict.

Nothing to do with failing to explain how she was going to pay for tax cuts. Not listening to the advice from bodies like the OBR, which Dave had put in place.

the Truss budget didn't help but the effect was tiny. Huge other forces like the fossil fuel prices going through the roof due to Ukraine etc dwarfed any effect kami Kwasi had with his mini budget.

It isnt over yet because we have a few more months of this government, unless Rishi goes in July.

Shame about the West Mids mayor,Andy Street was doing an ok job as even socialist friends didnt have too much bad to say about him.  wonder if Labour would have done so well if we had voted for our local council.   The current occupants of the Council house have been dragging us down for ages.  They may blame external factors and the equal pay situation has been disastrous but as they were in power they should like the current government be held in part to be accountable.  That said I would probably still vote conservative in a general election while there is still no reasonable alternative.

I never actually thought that the idiotic Cons could ever vote into power a bigger eejit than Boris. But somehow they managed to. They found Liz Truss. And now they are paying the price.
