"As the Answer Bank expands, we here at AB Towers are looking for articles to be written and sent in to us, eventually to be hosted as content on our website in the relevant sections"
How about you ditch the above and concentrate on reinstating the Report This Answer facility?
Yup there used to be that option. If three folk clicked on it, an answer was removed pending its checking. It went some time ago and now, folk have to e-mail the Ed to bring it to his attention
The system you advocate is wide open to abuse, that's probably why it was removed in the first place. Members are already being banned for no good reason, it looks like an attempt to kill off any meaningful debate. Why do you all think censorship is the answer to everything? The way things are heading under the new editor, it will soon be the bland leading the bland, your wishes are about to come true.
Whilst this site needs no verification to register, can be accessed and read by anyone without the need to register, it has to be moderated strictly.
If anyone wishes to discuss subjects not suitable for children, or use language that is not appropriate for children, there are plenty of other sites that will satisfy their requirements.
We do need the report button on individual posts. To have to report a whole thread because of one post on the third page is ridiculous.
It is possible to have debate and keep within the rules of the site.
A newsletter would be good....summarising the weeks intellectuals and idiots. New pages of jokes and amusing anecdotes. Record of prisoners in the dungeons (to be extended for more) and release bulletins.
I'd love to see the report this answer back as I too think it is stupid to have to report an entire thread because one or two poeple have decided to be offensive or argue amongst themselves.
This function was around before my time, but as was previously mentioned the report system in its old form had many flaws which could be exploited to get questions removed.
Undoubtedly there needs to be change when it comes to reporting and banning, hopefully this will come about when we get the website changes, but for now the function won't be coming back. Sorry.
And with regard to "ditching" the articles idea, we've had a fantastic response and many informative articles have been written by the AB community which will eventually play a large role in the new website layout. The idea won't be ditched.
er, yes, well, getting offensive posts removed was the whole idea. Getting entire threads removed was not - which is why people would like to see the return of the function for reporting individual posts without deleting threads which very often were entirely inoffensive when they started.
Precisely jno. And frankly if you're aware that there's a problem with the report his answer facility being open to abuse then why don't you just try and close the loop that allows them to abuse? There must be some way of doing this? It's ridiculous closing down a whole thread just because a couple of people are being tits.
Like my esteemed collegues jno and CD, I fail to see how the report the answer option was used to remove a question?
So basically, can we assume that despite the majority of us wanting this facility brought back, it won't be? Nice to know that this site and it's editorial team listens to its users then....!
boo if i understand it right , your post on the aog thread could get reported by 3 people and it would be removed.
there are a few people on here with acouple of names, so only 2 would need to vote against it . give the new editor time he is getting rid of some of the bad abers and i think he is doing a very good job at the present time.
over the weekend it was a little quiet but there were no big arguments and no porn links
Can see where you're coming from Windmill, and whilst my replies may have offended someone on here ( i really hope though!), I'd like to think that no-one would report them if the report the answer thingy was reinstated.
If they did go though, I'd also like to think that whoever checks 'em out at AB HQ would see that they were not malicious in any way and put them back again.
boo i did not say that you have offended anyone i was pointing out how i understand it to work.
ie aog reports it
i report it
joe bloggs reports it
your post then removed ?
you would then only have answers from people who agree with you
