I'm usually into cryptic crosswords, but someone has just asked me these:

1) I have 5 letters , if I take away the first and last letters (from the 5) I am still the same, if I take the middle letter away (from the 5) I am still the same, what am I ?

2) I am heavy going forwards but not backwards, what am I ?

Any ideas?
