We all know the famous equation. Can anyone tell me what units of energy the E represents, I know that C is the speed of light in Metres per second and M is the mass in Kilograms but what unit is the E? Thanks

PS anyone know how to get a little 2 above the C! in the question title?!

The standard unit of energy is the Joule, so I'd assume it would be that
If you know the units of the other two variables, then with a quick dimensional analysis, you could determine the units for the third.  For example:  mc^2 correlates to the units Kg m^2/s^2 = Kg m/s^2 (m) = N*m = joule.

To type superscript two ( ) hold down the Alt key and type 0178 on the number keypad.

Here is a list of ASCII keycodes... http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/characterentities_famsupp_69.html
