I find it striking that cork conducts less heat than snow.

But, everything conducts heat... The transfer of heat is normally from a high temperature object to a lower temperature object by one of 4 methods or processes. One source says "...Heat transfer changes the internal energy of both systems involved according to the First Law of Thermodynamics."

So it's not surprising that cork conducts heat...

To conduct (rather than radiate) one needs a medium to do the conduction. I'm unsure of a 'sea' of virtual particles count; I suspect not. But I'm sure another expert will be alone to enlighten me soon.
