If the setter definitely means 1953 then I'd go with the answer you got earlier- unless the setter is referring to some fictional satellite from a book, comic or film. Is this the exact wording as the English is a little clumsy

thats exactly how the question is written - I've spent ages thinking of books, porgrammes etc to see if its a trick question but can't think of any. Founda satellite called cosmos but not sure if thats it

The reference to 2013 puzzles me too- if Kosmos1953 is still orbiting now then why does the question not say 2015?

Is the date not a mistake? If 1963 instead of 53 then it could be Telstar 2. Wiki has it as still orbiting in 2013.

But the first satellite was Sputnik launched in 1957 which leads me to think it must be something else.
