Vinca Plants...

They've probably been around for a while but they are new to me.
I'm not talking about vinca minor or v major, usually grown as perennials as ground-cover plants for shade

This type is a bedding variety with large vibrant showy flowers which look more like Impatiens (Buzzy Lizzy).
They are lovely looking plants, and I've bought several as a gift to someone.
So, has anyone grown this variety ? Any tips or problems with pests etc.

Thanks for the link Woof.
It looks like another case of badly labelled, nursery plants.
The plastic labels just say Vinca with the colour variety ie 'raspberry' etc.

Ah well you live and learn.

its like both calendula and tagetes being called marigold.....calendula petals are edible, tagetes petals are not!

If they are vincas they are very hardy. I grow them all the time and they go on for ever.

Not really vinca's but, as Woofgang says ' Catharanthus roseus.
It seems the nursery trade (or some at least) havent got around to changing/correcting the name yet.

Apparently first discovered in Madagascar, where plant hunters thought they resembled vinca's (periwinkles)
