No idea where to post this, but I believe maths is a science.

What is 2.86Kg in pounds and ounces?

I have been told it is about 6 and a half pounds.

The conversion rates I have found only tell me in pounds (with decimals) and not ounces.

Sorry I have not explained it well and not brainy enough to work out the fractions of pounds into ounces.

Thank you

so it's 2.204 times 2.86 to start with = 6.30344 pounds there are 16oz to a pound so 0.30344 x 16 = 4.85504 so the final answer is 6pounds and 4.85504 ounces.
maths is not a science. Though it is used heavily in science.

For conversions, use google!

http://www.google.com

type this:

2.86Kg to pounds
and google gives: 2.86 kilograms = 6.3052207 pounds

now take the decimal bit of that answer:

.3052207 pounds to ounces
.3052207 pounds = 4.8835312 ounces

therefore 2.86Kg = 6 pounds and 4.88 ounces

And it looks looks like it may be a goer!

There's roughly 2.2 pounds in a kilogram so to convert kg to lbs, double the kilograms and add a tenth of that answer.

So 6kg equals 6 x 2 (12) plus a tenth (1.2) =13.2lbs

For metres to yards, the yardage is the distance in metres plus a tenth so 1500m = approx1650 yards (the correct figure is 1640 but it's close enough.

For litres to pints "a litre of water's a pint and three quarters" is the way to mind on it

For the particular example given by l_h_kings

2.86 x 2 = 5.72 plus a tenth (0.572) = 6.292 or roughly

6.3lbs.

As there's 16oz in a lb, that means 6lbs 4.8oz.

Here's a useful site:

http://www.worldwidemetric.com/metcal.htm

I think it's American, so don't forget that the US gallon is smaller than the Imperial gallon if you are converting liquid volume.

Sorry, I see what you mean.  The answer the above site gives is 6.3052 lb which is not much use, is it?
why would you want to convert kilograms to those obsolete units? Sorry but It's the 21th century now, wouldn't it be more useful for you to just learn what a kilogram is?
well the no 1 nation on earth uses it. So spare us your thinly veiled sanctimonious drivel.
Loosehead: nice words, but pathetic reason!
Surely you're not stupid enough to do something just because "the no 1 nation" does it... you're a human being, not a sheep
Well Space, you clearly ARE stupid enough to equate what measuring units someone prefers with some sort of cultural advancement. You and the rest of the metric mafia are never going to bully people into using your measuring system. We know what a kilogram is and may well choose to use them but we are not going to be bullied into it.  The original question was one based on arithmetic, you chose to hijack it because of your clear insecurity over the fact that some people, quite a lot of people, prefer the imperial system of measures.

Well said Loosehead!  (except that "thinly veiled" should perhaps read "transparent".  Did you (all) know that Britain's railway distances are all recorded and measured in miles and chains?  Designs of new track are done in metric for ease of use of software, but the final standard, the Engineers Line Reference, is in Imperial.

To help with the original question, conver the Kg to ounces and then divide by 16 to convert to pounds.  Subraction will then give the odd ounces figure,

Loosehead, you seem to think you are in some kind of war... You have a lot of imagination!
The "metric mafia" and their "bullying" are quite funny, I've never read that before...
I didn't know I had some "insecurity" about what other people prefer ! You seem to know me better than I do, thanks to your imagination.

Also, kilograms are not "my" units, neither are imperial units "yours". You didn't invent them and you are allowed to use any unit you want, and so am I. there is no need to fight an imaginary war were each nation has to pledge allegiance to a unit system for some strange reason...
You won't be sent to court martial for using a unit that is more practical than the one you were bought up with!

My unit is bigger than your unit, so there!!

And to get back to the original question;

2.86Kg is about (according to which conversion factor you have Googled)

6

(sorry, cat jumped on keyboard)

....is about   6 lb  4 oz  14 dr

(there being 16 ounce (oz) to the pound (lb), and 16 dram (dr )to the ounce)

Brachiopod, you need this site:

Excellent SteveD !!!
This is brilliant stuff... but any idea about an Excel formula to do the job?
