Corbyn Doesn't Not Do A Motion Of No Confidence...
69 Answers
Last night Jeremy Corbyn tabled a Motion of No Confidence... In the Prime Minister personally, rather than the government.
In contrast to a normal MONC, this is a completely non-binding motion and would be purely symbolic. But Labour have indicated that if the govt doesn't make time for his meaningless MONC (which the govt can probably win), then he might be forced to use the proper one. Meanwhile the Lib Dems and Greens are trying pointlessly to amend his pointless motion to make it less pointless...

Just what is the Leader of the Opposition playing at? What on earth is the point of all this?

Did you though see JRM pop up in parliament crowing that Mrs May had his full support after her recent VONC victory (“terrible result ; she should resign” he said last week)
Jeez what a snake.

A further reason for not doing the only proper thing instead of farting about with votes of confidence in the PM is that there is every chance Labour would not win. Or indeed every chance they would. Labour’s time will be post-Brexit when they can blame the Tories for the economic downturn.
That is what the three Ms will be telling him no doubt.

ich: "Labour’s time will be post-Brexit when they can blame the Tories for the economic downturn. " - yes good point Labour can blame the government for the issues that occur whilst fire fighting no deal. So no deal may actually get agent Cob closer to No 10. Sadly though there is no election until 2022, plenty of time for the Tories to get a new leader and recover.
JRM is right to protect the PM. By protecting her he is protecting the party.
It is one thing to ‘have no confidence’ in your leader but when someone else challenges them you should rally round them when the alternative is worse.
Its sort of the same as, I can call my brother a ***twit*** (or worse) but if someone else says it I would come to his defence.
Tory rebels would Not vote against her in a VONC by Corbyn or anyone else.

I think it would be reasonable kromo were Labour to adopt a more constructive attitude now. I still hold out hope that that may be the case. The hard left want Brexit - probably a no deal Brexit - for a few reasons, but more moderate elements might be tempted away. In desperate times desperate measures need looking at: hence the agenda of the latest cabinet meeting.

Yes but he didn't need to say "after her victory in the confidence vote last week"! That was the unbelievable bit.
In any case a few ERGers (not him necessarily) had said they might vote against the government in a confidence vote. What became of those threats is unclear. Maybe blown away in the wind as their brave new "no deal" Brexit world would be ...

//In fairness, I think blaming the govt for the consequences of 'no deal' is quite a reasonable thing for the opposition to do... //
Really? There we were thinking that the vote for Brexit was not about petty party politics. The traditional Labour strongholds in the North of England and elsewhere voted overwhelmingly for Brexit. Instead of playing mystery mole Corbyn should be, as leader of the people that vote for his party, supporting Brexit whole heartedly instead of going in and out with the tide of slime that is the EUSSR.
