it is all well and good saying i got the answer wrong but no one has yet got it right off here either only bhg become close but he wasnt counting the two 30 sec breaks, and said he made 2 turns when infact he only made one, the 2nd turn that u imply took place was infact not a turn, but a continuation of the original journey that he was doing to start which was only 1 mile remember but he walked back half a mile and then another half mile to get to the original ending he was going to, so in total he has made a 2 mile journey and took two 30 sec breaks in between . are you all with me so far ?
if u really want the answer : thetotal time he took for the whole journey was 31 mins in total.
15 mins to walk the original mile then he took a 30 sec break so thats 15 mins and 30 secs, then he walked halfway back and took another 30 sec break so thats 7.5 mins added on to get halfeway back then another 7 mins to walk onwards to the end , hence 31 mins in total

OK.
So, firstly, I note that you *still* haven't posted the original question, as was asked of you several times.
Secondly, what the hell?! You started off by telling us the answer was 12 and a half minutes. So where the heck has 31 come from?!
Can you not see that this entire train wreck is because of your inability to express yourself clearly? We are confused because you are confusing.

but if he continued on his original journey, he must have turned again, because he has just walked half a mile back.
Smartypants, it is not an unreasonable assumption that if you post what appears to be a mathematical puzzle in the Science section, then people who answer will be fairly well-versed in science and maths and we are all telling you that your question, as worded, is not consistent with the answer you are giving

yes correct but his return journey wasnt a mis direction as he was originally intending to go that way , so to put all your minds at rest the answer to the original question which was '' how long did it take the man to finish his 30 sec break , before he set off to get to the end of the origal journey planned, the answer been 31 mins and 30 secs , tho he may of stopped for his 2 mins of breaks, time didnt stop and its this missing time you are not adding into the total time for the return
// bhg & ael - she's 31, a West End actress (chorus so far, but hoping for the big role any day now) & having learned that Jim prefers a large glass of wine (? - L-i K scrambles for a reasonable alternative to beer) now times herself from picking up the bottle, so each round takes 28 secs to provide (Jim is still drinking chasers as well). //
The answer is approximately 1.5 hours. I think.
