Looking at the posts on (the impossibility of) predicting the future of technological/scientific development, I can't help recalling the legendary words from the early 1940s, of IBM's then president, Thomas J Watson, who reputedly said: "I think there is a world market for about five computers."
Interestingly, in spite of the millions of computers now in existence, there are now views being expressed returning to that above, even stating that the world will eventually need just one computer to which we will all be connected. Who knows?????
