The biggest disappointment you've had, my own sort of relates to the present.
I would be around 9 or 10 when my mum told me that in a week's time the Queen would be passing through our high street on her way to somewhere else. After being excited for a whole week the big day arrived. We got to the high street about 2 hours before she was due so we would be at the front.
After a long wait of 4 hours due to the Queen running late the car she was in was pointed out to me by my mom, could i see her No, there was that many different reflections on the glass of the car all i could see was this white glove moving from side to side. For all i know it could have been Ken Dodd with a white glove on the end of his tickling stick. :0)
1967 - I wanted a new bike or a puppy for Christmas. I was told that I was getting my present early (beginning of December). I reckoned that it could only be a puppy. It wasn't it was a human baby.
They expected me to be excited to get a baby brother!!
Yuck, it was 1980 before I got my puppy. I still have a brother.
Not me but I do remember when a mate was moving into his new flat, way back when.
His Gran had a large box as a moving-present from her, gift wrapped on the floor of the dining room.
He reasoned it could only be a tv(pre-flat screen days) and started eagerly unwrapping it……only to be presented with a wicker linen basket!
