I often wonder about that, Canary, but then again, I don't have any serious health issues. In fact I have no health issues, unlike some, a lot younger than me, who have plenty. If someone is in constant pain without any sign of relief, I suppose it's understandable they would be desperate to try something "new". I don't know, though.

The article is extremely frustrating as it doesn't explain how the slapping therapy caused her death. Was it too forceful, did it cause a rupture, clot...what?

I've read reports about this from all over the world and can find no details, no doubt it will all come out in the trial.  It's taken a long time to get this man in to court.

I know I mention my weight loss too often but it is relevant here.

Lots of people asked me how I lost weight, almost eagerly - they were really keen to know.  As soon as told them 'diet and exercise' their eyes glazed over even though I didn't go in to detail.  They were all hoping for some magic pill, potion, jab that let me carry on with my lifestyle and lose weight without effort.

It's a similar thing.  Desperate people will resort to desperate things

That woman could possibly  have sorted out her diabetes with diet, and not have needed injections...though it doesn't say whether she had T1 or T2.
