Pi bonding in Carbon-Carbon double bonds
Do the Pi electrons forming the second bond of a double bond between two Carbon atoms interact in two layers, one above and one below the sigma bond as shown in text book diagrams; or are they just shown this way since the drawing has to be in two dimensions but they actually form a "tube" around the sigma bond?
