I have an old victorian fireplace that was intended for coal I would like to install a wood burning sealed unit but after inspection by a reputable company, have been advised that the opening is too small. Furthermore, the chimney opening is off to the side of the fireplace and above the grate opening, it appears to be filled in with concrete. Is there any way we can get the opening and sufficent concrete removed to enlarge the freplace to accommodate a wood burning unit? I wondered about a diamond saw to cut out a sufficent openng

I am hoping to do the same thing in the future and I have been researching a few things.... HETAS is the solid fuel equivalent of CORGI so visit their website www.hetas.co.uk to find a registered expert as their are building regs attached to this sort of thing. It will probably cost more, but well worth it for the beauty of the stove and the warmth it will give.

Good luck
