it was written by bergman & legrand, and originally recorded by noel harrison as part of the soundtrack for the 1968 version of the thomas crown affair. sting re-recorded it for the more recent remake of the film. dusty springfield's version is maybe the best known, there have been others by elaine paige, neil diamond and sally anne marsh.
Vic and Bob did an hilarious version of that years ago think it might have been as far back as the Big Night out the lyrics are hilarious if you like them of course
Nobody has mentioned Alison Moyet's version which is excellent.
Plus to add a little more trivia Noel Harrison is the son of Rex Harrison and appeared as Mark Slate in The Man from U.N.C.L.E
Stings remake of the song was very jazz influenced and although sounds original it is basically the same as the version recorded Regine Velasquez.
