Could anyone explain in simple laymans terms,the differences between Sulphates and Sulphides and Nitrates and Nitrides.

Not that it is one molucule of water,as someone has already told me,and were unable to explain further!

In very simple terms in sulphates and nitrates the sulphur and nitrogen (respectively) are fully oxidised, i.e. xSO4 and xNO3.

In sulphides and nitrides there is no oxygen, i.e. xS and xN.
