C-T scan (computerised tomography) is a machine that basically moves around you and you are not "encased" in the apparatus. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a large hollow tube into which you are delivered.
CT is basically for boney abnormalities and MRI for soft tissue abnormalities e.g liver, kidney, brain , nerves etc.
No pain involved with either, although MRI may takr around 15mins.
