acetic acid - vinegar
carbonic acid - fizzy drinks
ascorbic acid - vitamin C
citric acid - lemons etc
acetylasalicylic acid - aspirin
sorry acetylsalicyclic acid

alkali

bleach
ammonia - smelling salts
baking soda
blood
milk of magnesia
I will spell this right

acetylsalicylic acid - Hurray!
They do make their homework difficult these days don't they? 5 of each is rather alot!
For acids I can only think of vinegar, lemon juice, citrus fruit & ? tomato ketchup.
For alkalis there is bicarbonate of soda, alkali batteries, toothpastes that contain a whitening agent, oven cleaner, washing soda etc.
It is very difficult. Would be interested to know what the teacher comes up with?

Sorry, Sasperilla, I disagree - it's the same question I was asked in a Junior School science lesson about *cough* 30-odd years ago! And we had to bring samples into school aswell !

I still remember my teacher's reaction when, having seen countless yoghurt pots and jars with blobs and dribbles of soap, vinegar, lemon juice, washing powder etc. - he looks at my sample and asks what it was, and I explaianed to him that I "came across it" inside my dad's car battery........
EASY PEASY!

lol

ACIDS - Lemons, Vinegar, Salt, Soda pop, batteries

ALKALIS - Bleach, (most cleaning products infact) soap, baking soda, dishwasher tablets, washing powder.
