To illustrate, do you think that there would be a different pH if a small piece of soap was dissolved in a sinkful of water as opposed to a stronger solution made by dissolving a bar of soap in say 500ml of hot water?
Secondly, what type of soap are we talking about here? Cosmetic body soaps generally have a pH in the range of 5 to 8. Laundry soaps, which are made in a such a way to retain much of the lye etc that's used in their manufacture, typically have a pH of 10-12. Do you think that the type of soap used may have a bearing on the pH?
