Bath plug stuck....

I have one of those plugs where you twist this round thing (lol) and the plug pops up. It's broke and won't twist so I can't get the plug out. The bath still has OH's dirty bath water in it and I do not fancy standing in his dirty water to have a shower.

Any idea on how I can get the plug out? We've tried using a knife....but no.

He mentioned maybe a magnet.....but where would I get a magnet?

Looks like you're going to have to take the bath side off, & mess around with the linkage that connects the round thing to the plug.
Hardware store ? Haberdashery ? DIY store ? Supermarket ?
IMO carrust probably has the best, and permanent, solution.

The sides off....I don't know what he done but it didn't work...!!!

He'll have another look when he gets home....I just want a shower now :-(
A long shot I know but do you have an old loudspeaker ? that contains a powerful magnet. remove the water with a bucket first.
Temporary solution. Bathroom basin and flannel :-)
Have to slum it for a bit.

You know what....I didn't even think about emptying by hand.

An old loud speaker....I'm sure there will be one somewhere.
Get a bucket & empty the bath down the toilet.

That's what I'm going to have to do carrust. Then he can shower in my dirty water if he doesn't fix it :-)
You're a hard woman ummmm.LOL

Use to be Carrust...used to be :-)
remove water with bucket and cloth.then drill a large hole in plug and use a rod to pull it out.buy new plug.all done
My kitchen sink has the same kind of fitting and the plug occasionally sticks. I find I can prize the plug out using the point of a small but sturdy kitchen knife. The problem is that the water in your bath will exert a downward pressure that may overcome any attempt to prize the plug out - so the advice is to empty the bath with a bucket first.
I should have added that your fitting is probably still OK - pushing down hard on the plug can jam the plug making it impossible to turn the knob to raise it. Once it's free, it'll probably work OK (it does with my sink!).

Cheers. I've decided to finish my housework first then I'll give it a bash. It does make sense though.
I have had this happen to me. It is when the screw which locates on the thing that pops it up comes loose and unscrews a bit and then gets a bit off centre and jams it.
I doubt very much if a magnet would be of any use as these plugs tend to be of Chrome plated brass or other non ferrous cast metal.

Emptying the batch with a jug is a sound idea as it reduces the pressure on the plug.

If you go to a proper car shop such as a motor factor you can buy a tool for grinding car engine valves in. All it is , is a wooden stick with a small strong rubber sucker at each end. Stick that onto your plug and it will pull out. Then you can then adjust your screw length.

Simples!

I don't think so Ziggy. How would I know if I was? The bathroom hasn't been in a year yet...

He's asleep next to me Doc :-)

It's just under the taps. It's a bit awkward as the sink is very close to it so is hard to get underneath. The bath panel is off already.
