We all hear of this, men look at women and are looking for the hour glass figure, big breasts, wide hips etc.. Said to be an unconscious way way of looking for the the best female to carry his baby, and women are looking for the broad shouldered muscular alpha male that is more likely to be the best hunter gatherer etc... As this is all in our genes apparently what is to be said of males and females that go for a body type nothing like the ones I've mentioned, either much fatter or much thinner, are they devoid of this gene/dna that signals to the rest of us to get the best bet for human survival? Are they lacking in something? What's the Physiology behind this?

One thing we all look for in a mate is symmetry. It indicates a high level of fidelity and few mutations in the process that converts one cell into a whole person composed of 100 trillion cells.

You know how some people are not classic beauties yet they have an appeal that cannot be quite grasped. You will find that they are invariably highly symmetrical even though their specific features are unusual.
seadogg, You say "Some sociologists have it that we are all actors playing a part" It seems that Shakespeare thought the same several hundred years earlier when he wrote
"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players"
