In order to objectively grasp the nature of reality it is crucial to make the distinction between perception of that which is not otherwise there, aka delusion and that which produces a legitimate perception. Consciousness is invariably the result of and only made possible by the existence of that of which it has become aware and the existence of that which gives rise to the process that makes awareness possible, the rational mind. That other stuff . . . it's not consciousness.
The eye generates light and the ear sound, no more than a tree through the swaying of its branches generates the wind . . . unless its falling, of course.
