Am I A Bad Person For Giving My Cat Away?

I have had my cat for three years. He never really liked my sisters and every time he sees them, he tries to attack their feet or legs. Sometimes he will jump at me. When I try to cuddle him he just wiggles out of my arms or tries to bite or scratch me. I even tried laying beside him and gently petting him and he finds that irritating. He scratches himself often and because I let him out on the lanai or patio at the back of my house, I was wondering if he had fleas. So I tried to give him a bath but he scratched me. I know it's normal for cats to be moody but he's not very cuddly, it's weird because he can be really nice sometimes. He will rub against my leg sometimes but most of the time, if he rubs against my leg too long, he will bite. He's a lot nicer to strangers. I guess I was wondering, will I be a bad person for giving my cat away? I found a really lovely no kill shelter that's like kitty heaven for cats. The caretakers are very kind and the shelter looks more like a playroom for cats. I don't know, I really love him but if he's not going to let me bathe him or even get close to him, should I really keep him? Any advice or simple answer would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Cats hate water.
best he goes to a more suited environment ..alas cats are fickle..they adopt you !
a bath for any cat would be hell !
cats are independent and will allow you to fuss over them when it suits them.
A cat should never be bathed unlike dogs.

Hello, I know cats hate baths. But he scratches constantly. And I'm worried he could irritate his skin. So I wanted to give him a quick bath to kill and bugs/fleas that could be in his fur.

*Any
Life is too short and there will be a cat somewhere that will appreciate love, care and attention.
Get him put down........anguish for 24 hours and then find another cat.
my wonky just moved in.. he has an owner but he prefers here... never goes away now ..plays in the garden ..eats and sleeps here...
I think your cat would be happier in the shelter. He obviously isn't happy, for whatever reason.
SQAD !!! BAD BAD man !! puss will find a loving home !
there are powders and other treatments for fleas...not bathing...
Have you tried flea treatment? Has it been wormed?

Some cats don't mind water but most hate it although they are good swimmers. They don't need a bath though. Their special tongue means they are capable of cleaning themselves.

I have an unfriendly cat. He doesn't scratch or bite though but rarely allows anyone to touch him. He just sits and stares at us. Leave you cat be if you keep it and let it come to you on his terms.
bit like with humans, Sqad.....?
Your cat sounds normal. Some cats don't like getting cuddles and will fight to get away.

Is it a new cat? If he has fleas, which would be very uncomfortable for him you should use flea products from your vet. I am surprised that you thought that giving him a bath would get rid of them. Do you live with your parents? Maybe they can advise you.
Wolf..is any cat normal ? lol...
Sorry I just noticed that you have had him for three years. Did the vet not explain about things like fleas when you went to get your annual inoculation or when you got him castrated?
My cats are smarter than me
Oh no, not for giving a pet away.
I rather you give it away to a nice home than have it put down - they are not disposable pets!
However if you have tried flea treatements have you taken it to the vets - it could have an allergy that just needs treating which could be making it bad tempered.
Sqad....you have lots of winning ways you know !
