We strait with a bacon roll and a Buck’s Fizz , can’t imagine doing that at any other time of the year , open presents although that pit will be skipped this year as we’ve decided we only buy for the sake of it and should we want something then we will get it, then it’s to my daughters house , I’ve cooked the Turkey crown on CE, where her and I prep the prawn cocktails and veggies, always have the tv playing Christmas music on a low level, sit down for dinner about 2pm , when I was a small girl the Queens speech was a done thing at 3pm, then we play a board game , my son in law is a terrible cheat ,home around 5/ 6 to comfies and TV like Call the Midwife

Jo. Congratulations boy/girl ?
Naomi, yup. My local Sally Army.
Good for you mozz .
Thanks, anneasquith. A little boy. Can’t wait to meet the little lad.
Thank you Anne. I admit that I'm partly doing it for selfish reasons: so I'm not on my tod for the whole day, but I've done volunteering a few times over past Christmases, and it is very satisfying seeing the reactions of those who get helped out. Never done anything with the Salvation Army before though, so it should be an experience. ☺
Good for you, Mozz...I have a friend who does that. She started because she was on her own one year but now she reckons it's the best Christmas Day ever...x
Mozz, the Savvy Army is the charity I give to generously at Christmas. I would love to do what you will be doing if I could. Well done.
Congratulations Cloverjo x

Well done to you Mozz x
Congratulations, Clover Jo! Has he got a name yet?
There will be quite a few changes now...
Enjoy your time with him and family x
Thank you everyone. I'll let you all know how it went. I suspect I may break my washing up record ;-)
Do let us know, Mozz...x
Well done, Mozz.
Chris, there was an Ivy League college in America that was said to have put up a notice saying "From next Monday, it will be a college tradition not to walk on the lawn."
no idea this year as we are going to my niece's new home for Christmas day. I hope that it will be a good one for everybody no matter where they end up.
Mozz. When you said it would be just a normal day and you'd be on your own I thought your plan must have slipped your mind - but you remembered. Jolly good.
Good on you Mozz we all enjoy a free meal I’m going to Ma’s always plenty of washing up to be done and I do hope so this year as it’ll mean many family members can travel and be there.
This is one year where I am not praying for a white Christmas. My parents are coming to me and it's a fair drive from mine to theirs. The order of the day will be wake up, cup of tea or two in bed, open presents all 3 of us whilst still in bed, something small but tasty for breakfast (I might just have fruit and a glass of fizz) and then shower and last-minute tidy time before 'rents get here.

The MIL and FIL are popping round for a Christmas Sherry and to bring their usual truckload of presents for the urchin.

Hopefully my parents will arrive no later than 12 and we can do drinks, present-exchange, etc and put the Christmas songs on before I serve some canapes made from pears soaked in white port (M&S) and whipped stilton and goats' cheese. Lunch / dinner will be served just after the Queen's Speech and then we will all go and rest in the sitting room and watch a Christmas film until everyone's ready for the cheese and biscuits and port.

I wish my parents could / would stay over but they're having to leave the dog with my uncle and I haven't got a spare bed yet.
sounds ideal Lcg, hope it all goes well.
Thanks Emmie, fingers crossed as I know my mum is really looking forward to it and it's the first time in nearly 45 years that I've cooked Christmas dinner for her.
*Update*

Thoroughly enjoyed my day at the Sally Army. Was on waiting/collection duties and general looking after people. Surprised by the age range of volunteers, the youngest at 15, the eldest mid-70s.

I'd recommend it to anyone, not the faintest whiff of any trouble, plenty of dancing and chat, and 80-odd happy, full bellies.
