Not *exclusively* a Christmas question... When Capt Von Trapp left Austria, did he leave all his money behind, or not?

and where, in the first place, did his fortune come from?

or was he not wealthy at all?

The von Trapps lost most of their money when the banks in Europe crashed in 1932.

This prevented them leaving Austria when the Nazis were causing so many problems. So, when they finally fled to America they had no money to leave behind.

The money was old family money .
