Sorry if this has been asked and answered previously, but when should you take the decorations down. I've had a google about but have got conflicting advice, is it anytime before Twelfth Night but bad luck after?
My gran believed in so many superstitions it must have been difficult for her to walk in a straight line.
There's an ancient tradition invented by me which is when they start to irritate me they come down.
The sky has not fallen on me as a result.
Think I've answered this one before. What I said was that the decorations traditionally come down on Twelfth Night (6th January) but don't think there's any hard and fast rule.
Years ago, folks put up their decorations xmas eve, and took them down on 6th January. I recall as a child that we actually had little candles on the branches, in little metal clip on holders.
I abhor seeing bright blue, manically flashing, electricity wasting light on gutters and anywhere else they can hang them outside the house.
Oh dear, that turned into a rant.
6th January :)
Thanks all, Mosaic, they're irritating me already, had them up since 3rd Dec as my daughter insists they are there for her birthday.
Thanks Jenna, I love raccoons.
See what I mean about conflicting advice, ron says down by Twelfth Night, maggie says on Twelfth Night. I'm even finding different dates for this, some say 5th and some say 6th Jan, although if you count from 25 Dec then 5th would be right. I want them gone now! Thanks all for the replies.
Sorry Racoon, just one of my pet hates, and the fact that they go up in November. Another nasty custom brought over from USA, including proms and halloween to name a couple.
I just like to see a xmas tree in the window, with multi coloured lights.
It's just superstition really so if you not, then take them down whenever you want. I quite like my tree and the few decorations I have so will probably take down on 6th Jan.
