in bookies, thing is, I do the same numbers every week over many years-3, 29, 35 in Irish Lotto, a friend asked me to do a few numbers for her, I did, the butcher gave me tips for Royal Ascot, the horse he said will win, came second, I backed a horse that sounded like his tip,I backed True Valour, a different horse came 2nd, valour in the name, tonight my weekly numbers came up, wow I was so excited, looked at the bookie slip, numbers I wrote were 3, 29, 12 ahhhh not my numbers, in my rush to get all the slips in to the cashier, I put 12 instead of 35 :( of all weeks to err
Just not my week

It's easy to be left wondering "What if .. . ?" I recently forgot to put my two quid on the lottery. I later found that I'd have got two numbers up, which would have only gained me a 'Lucky Dip' entry. However I was still left wondering if that random entry would then have been the one which would have won me millions!

Oh no ducksie never mind what do you want with all that money anyways!!
Apart from the National Lottery (and raffle tickets at fetes, etc), I don't gamble but I've sometimes been left wondering whether I should have done.

For example, many years ago I was waiting for a bus with my father when another guy asked us what we thought would win 'the big race' that day. I didn't even know that there was a 'big race' taking place but, based upon the 'system' that my mates and I had tried to work out at college (but never using real money) I took his newspaper from him and agreed to give him my suggestions.

I told him my three 'hot tips', in order of preference and largely forgot about it. However I later joked to my father that perhaps I ought to find a bookies and put a few quid on.

That afternoon my father and I were at Lords, where the result of the 'big race' (I can't even remember which one it was now) was announced over the PA system. I'd correctly picked first, second and third, in order! I've often wondered whether the guy at the bus stop took any notice of my tips ;-)

On the pile of cash I have islay, I'd not even notice it, I just laughed, I was trying to think as I looked at the result, was bookies still open, then I seen the slip, and the big number 12 instead of 35 ahhh not the 1st time it happened with these numbers :) ther excitement was good while it lasted

Lucky him Chris if he had taken notice, like you, I don't do the horses in the bookies, I had no reason to go over but I was out that morning and an elderly lady asked me to do her numbers in the bookies, that's how I met the butcher I had to go in there on way to do her numbers

G'night albs :) we can only dream ;)
What would you have won??
Reminds me of a girl I used to work with and her parents had gone on holiday. They left her the money to buy the lottery ticket for that week. She forgot. Their numbers came up and the dad rang her hysterical with excitement that they'd won...... I left the room as she broke the news....
oh, lawdy, Smow !! I bet she wasn't popular for a while :-(
She was in tears!! I felt so bad for her!!
Question Author
That's terrible smow, oh my Mam did similar on a fella gave her cash to put on a horse for him, she was in town, rushing about and decided she'll do it for him in morning, the horse came in, he asked her about it and she said she didn't do it yet, ye almost pulled his hair out too ha, Mam was not a gambler, saying that, the numbers I had chosen were hers, she is no longer with me but I keep her numbers going, I would have won €330 (33/1) so, it no great loss - was fun getting all excited though :)
