Pakistani Weddings

I have to go to a Pakistani wedding but it states on the invitation that no boxed gifts to be given so, do you give money? if so, cheque or cash?

When we went to one we gave gift vouchers which they seemed happy with.

my daughter went to one last month and she wore a bright pink chiffon trouser suit especially for it, the bride sat on a stage for what seemed like hours she said, and everyone came in and filed up and gave her money, they the groom appeared, sat for some photos and left again. My daughter was abit bemused by it and that is how she described it but she is sometimes dizzy. no alcohol there either she said.

Thats right there is never any alcohol,but the food is fantastic,and you can have as much as you like,they also have pop bought in crate loads.

stokemaveric,Its not just shops its houses as well,they all have to put money in a big "pot" and then they go out and buy houses and shops.and because there is so many of them it does not take long..................

Isn't it rude to put that on the invite? I have long held the belief that most people worry about the money they receive from the guests rather than the idea of sharing a special time with loved ones.
STORY:
When I was still a college student many of my friends were getting married. As I did not have the income of someone working full time I gave one 'friend' a "gift" of a lovely wedding frame set instead of money. Years later when a bunch of us were invited to another wedding this same girl commented on how there's always one person who doesn't show up with money but gives some gift. She did this more than once and finally I told her I gave her a box gift and took out my wallet to give her money. She was embarrassed, but I KNOW she knew what she was doing everytime she mentioned it. Sorry to rant.

Whats the difference in saying you want money or giving out a wedding present list stating "" i want a 4 slice toaster from harrod"" all ******** if you ask me, they get what they 're given and like it or lump it
