Has anyone recently asked you to show a 'Cheque Guarantee Card' when writing them a cheque?

I know once they would ask you for one, when using a cheque to pay for goods at the supermarket, but most people swipe their card these days.

Can't say I've used a cheque for several years to be honest. Do people still use them?

No. Found my cheque book the other day and the last cheque I wrote out was in 07 to the milkman.

Have been sent 3 Cheques all by different Companies in the last 3 weeks so they are still very much in use.

I use them regularly,. I can not see any other system that can adequately replace them. They are the perfect solution for the job they need to do. I think this is a case of banks failing their customers in order to maximise profit, and they should not be allowed to remove this core facility.

I sometimes give my dad cheques for things that he gets me. Other than that I don't use it for anything else.

I find them useful when sending someone money via for example a Greetings Card.

Also to pay for goods from a not often used outlet who I would rather not have them know my Credit/Debit card details.

recently i have dealt with two traditional specialist firms who only accept cheques. MY DH is involved in a RoSPA training group and they collect their membership renewals by cheque as it is a cheap method for folk to pay and safe to send through the mail.

I personally won't,I always found them to be awkward and faffing.
However,there surely must be areas of payment that could not be carried out by Credit/Debit card(I think)
Can anyone think of any?

I use them to send money by mail, like I needed to send a birthday cheque the other day. I used to use gift cards but they are less secure, anyone could use them if found, at least you can stop a cheque. Otherwise no, I pay either by swipe or or-line these days, my last cheque before the recent one was over a year ago.
Is it only personal cheques which are going? - I guess companies will still need to send them, I had one from my cat insurance company the other day.

as I said, maybe not could not be carried out in other ways but is the easiest, safest and cheapest method.

i send cheques for relatives b/day presents
i pay my plumber by cheque
i pay by cheque at the butchers

I agree with woofgang for small organisations and charities, who don't want to incur fees from having to gather subs etc by credit card!

I had my Oven cleaned by a Co' on Friday, It was a v/nice lady and she accepted Cash or Cheque. I dusted my Cheque-book off & paid that way (she wanted my post code written on the back) last cheque I made out was to my daughter in 2005.

PS the Oven job was FAB shon like dianonds afterwards, - £50 - . well worth it.

If you want a stamped paper receipt as proof of a bill being paid then any bill paid at the bank needs a cheque. Many folk don't like passing card details out on line or over a phone so cheques are useful then. Postal donations to charity or in a birthday card uses them. I'm sure there are many other situations where the recipient isn't a large business with card payment facilities.

I use about 10 cheques per month, so yes I would miss them.
