I was a Brownie ( will that be changed to something else now?)
I suppose I was a product of Baden Powells teachings, I learnt etiquette, camaraderie and much more as a small girl, how can they erase history like this?
I was a brownie and got thrown out for swearing. our Tawny owl had long manicured nails and one meeting we were dancing and I went the wrong way. She grabbed my arm so the nails dug in and pulled me into place. I yelled out "that bloody hurt" and my career as a brownie was over. I honestly cannot see how telling the whole story about a person is erasing history. And...
I know several ex Brownies who came out as termagents
and it is not scouts - cubby-wubbies ?
however up t north in t slums
a lot of kids look back on Brownsea as a holiday place to go back to and cherish
NOT like skool - first job - first employer
1. How is learning more about somebody you may have previously looked up to without knowing their flaws "erasing" history, rather than enhancing our understanding of it?
2. Why is history treated as so vulnerable that merely temporarily removing a statue is enough to erase it?

Do you honestly believe the mob who removed the statue and dumped it in the river were thinking "this is only temporary"?
No, but RBP's statue was removed by the council with the intent of returning it, so I think it's somewhat relevant. In Colston's case, the statue has already been retrieved and will likely be put on display again, albeit in a different context.
Even permanently removing a statue doesn't really erase history either.

And while we are at it, he kicked his sister out of the movement (she started the guide movement) in favour of his wife.....
I wonder how many people have lived their life without offending a large group of the population unintentionally. Some jobs carry a hate with them (traffic warden, MP etc), the type of car you drive (dirty diesel, gas-guzzler, any car at all), your lifestyle etc. It's just about impossible to live nowadays without offending someone.
Not enough spin on that one, Jim. You’ve been rumbled. Try harder.
You’re absolutely right, Bobbi. For the poor what Baden Powell offered was a godsend but people like him will be remembered only for the negative - the rest airbrushed from history. Meanwhile, those intent on destruction will continue to take advantage of all the good those men did. Hypocrites all.

nope - none of you have been following my Broadchurch thread. Poole council ( havenpool that is! ) decided last night to delay the removal of Baden Powell ( 's statue ) because the foundationw were too deep. However the news said the people of Poole Quay had interfered - no pasaran etc ( no one there speaks Spanish)
so the statue is still there in situ
scouts flanking it - with the support of the people of poole
which is why I thought Jims post had wandered out of a corrie thread or something
sozza again - I thought the thread was about Brownies only turning into nice people

Yes, I wonder how many of these protesters are avoiding using the hospitals/schools etc that the "evil men" have provided. If they are being consistent they should demand the bulldozing of the hospitals etc as they remain a monument to the benefactor. Simply renaming them will not do - they will still exist so they must be destroyed and the land left unused.
No I did Bobz
no intention to insult - and that some Brownies do turn into botches
and here we have woof - who I always thought was a man
getting BA for a tale of sin and insult
Ho hum there;s AB for you
and oo a lot of scouts oop t north have very happy memories of being a scout and hols on Brownsea Is ( that bit went out as well)
y'all clear?
Baking Powder is still on Poole Quay
( Baking Powder was his nick name when he was commanding Mafeking )( yes I know this as my father was in the same primary class as Botha and Smuts' sons)
