Disappointed My Superior Didn't Get Me Anything For Christmas
18 Answers
I've been in my role as a typist for 7 years. I help the whole office out.
My immediate boss assigned to me a superior whose secretary is off sick long term: so I'd taken on her role for 6 months since June 2022. My co-worker said, "I wonder what he'll get you for Christmas" (as he always got his usual secretary something every Christmas). I didn't think much of it, by when the time came, I didn't get a thing from him. The week before Christmas this same co-worker said, "Well, he's in today, so maybe he'll bring you in your present today". Well, he didn't show up and what started off as me not really thinking he'll get me a thing has now got me thinking why ever not? and my co-worker didn't help matters.
Were my expectations too high or was my co-worker teasing me?

Do you really get this uptight about so many work problems? It must be so depressing, why don't you consider a career change, it's not normal to analyse every co-worker in this way.
There is absolutely no reason a boss has to get his staff/secretary a present, especially one who is only temping for 6 months.

Many, many moons ago I worked as a typist in a solicitor's office. We had one very well to do client who owned lots of land. In the summer he handed in crates of strawberries, rasps etc. Nearer to Christmas he handed in wine, chocolates etc. Did any of the (3) typists get so much as a sniff? No, bosses kept the lot!!

Yes, I always slipped my staff/secretary something for Christmas.....always... NHS and Private.
It was very expensive to do and cost me probably around £800, but I needed to do it for myself as much as for my support team. Theatre staff/senior were taken out for a meal.
However, we are now living in the nasty, avaricious, argumentative society so I will close here.
LOL....the "good lookers" were slipped a "special" present....;-)

Anyway, Treacle - never expect a gift from an employer - if you get one, it is a surprise!
