Has anyone bought a TV from Argos. I was quite surprised when we finally purchased a TV, one for bedroom, that before you can purchase the TV
they take all your home details, to check to see if you have a TV Licence, and if it shows you don't, then won't sell you one.
Do other electrical outlets do this, or just Argos.
Not from Argos, but Comet did the same to me. They didn't take my details until after I'd bought the TV though, and said they had to pass it on the the licensing people.
evianb i actually thought it was a cheek, like checking up on you, it's the BBC that gets the lions share of the licence fee, so not really sure why they do this. We have a licence, but i still thought it a bit much to ask.
I don't think they can actually check there and then if you have a licence and they wouldn't refuse to sell you a TV. I believe they just have to pass on the details of anyone who purchaces a TV to the licence people.
If you bought a TV for someone else and have no need for a TV licence yourself then you simply inform the licence people of that should they ever bother to contact you about not havign one.
that is what the woman asked me, for our home address and details, and said that we couldn't buy one if we had no TV Licence. Once i gave her all the details, she put that into the computer, and checked, and once ok, was able to buy, i thought it was bizarre.
I can understand why you lol fts, but strange as it may seem some people think if you buy 'on line' the goods are shoddy or not in good working order.
I just wanted to clarify that it was in and still is V/good working order.
