Type in Platform Valance
It's called a 'bed valance' rather than a 'valance sheet' (which goes over the mattress too)
base valance. :)
How about typing valence sheet, gets you here http://www.google.co....b&fp=6312a38c7a0d615e

see this is the problem lol 3 different answers already :-)
I'm with maggie - its called a platform valence and goes UNDER the mattress, a valence sheet goes OVER the mattress and acts as a bottom sheet to lie on.
^^ valance
Question Author
yep I dont want a valance that goes over the matress which is why I dont want to be typing valance sheet in as then brings up loads to look through
The link above gives pages and pages of links to base valances 4get. I wish I could use one on my bed but because it is an adjustable one you can't put anything on the base that would interfere with the gubbins that controls it :(
Question Author
its just really the drawers I will need to get to on mine.

next question, can anyone tell me the height of the base bit???

Had a look at Dunelm Mill web page - they seem to call it a divan trim.
i think you can get elasticated ones that are basically a big strip of ruffled fabric with elastic at the top... i don't know what they're called though, sorry.

i made my own like this.
oh and i'm sure you have already noticed but its spelt valAnce
